Join PARA for a virtual information session to help your transition from resident physician to new-in-practice physician.

You’ll hear short, practical presentations on:
- Recruitment processes and protocols (AHS)
- Practice management considerations (AMA)
- Registration timelines and regulatory requirements (CPSA)
- Rural supports and programs (RhPAP)
- A panel of new-in-practice physicians who’ll share their experiences and answer your questions.

SESSION 1: Alberta Physician Recruitment and Privileging, AHS
Shelley Broadhurst, Manager, Medical Affairs Physician Resources
Medical Affair Physician Resources will be sharing steps to transition to practice, including specifically recruitment steps and considerations, where to apply, how to apply and a brief overview on the search and selection process.

SESSION 2: Regulatory Considerations, CPSA
Dr. Sayra Khandekar, Assistant Registrar
The CPSA will provide an overview of the Association, the registration process for independent practice and answer common questions about the process.

SESSION 3: Physician Billing Considerations, AMA
Norma Shipley, Consultant, Physician Fees
This presentation will focus on highlights of fee-for-service billing in Alberta and will be relevant for those going into fee-for-service practice as well as those entering a non-fee-for-service compensation model (clinical ARP or AMHSP) as activity recording in those models is based on the fee-for-service coding structure.

SESSION 4: Transition to Practice: RhPAP Supports
Tana Findlay, Coordinator, Strategy & Stakeholders
RhPAP offers education & locum funding opportunities to support rural physicians to enhance the care they are able to provide to their patients and to encourage them to remain in rural practice. These programs operate alongside ongoing work to attract new health professionals to rural practice and support their integration into the community and retention once working in rural Alberta

Note: this session will be geared toward those in primary care. A separate session (session 5) will run concurrently for residents in medical, surgical and diagnostic programs.
SESSION 5: New-in-Practice Physician Panel (moderated Q & A)
Session 5 will feature two separate New in Practice Physician panels, both moderated by PARA. One panel will include physicians from a range of medical and surgical specialties who will share their early-career experiences and answer your questions. The second panel will focus on rural and urban family medicine, with New in Practice Physicians speaking to their transition and practice realities and answering your questions.
