Dr. Vaishvi Patel
Radiation Oncology
University of Alberta
I’m a PGY 2 in Radiation Oncology. I grew up in Fort McMurray and moved to Edmonton for my schooling at the University of Alberta. I’m not sure when I officially earned the title of “Edmontonian,” but I’ve loved making this city my home!
I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of the Radiation Oncology program at the University of Alberta. The support and mentorship from the staff and residents have made the transition from medical school to PGY1, and now PGY2, so much smoother. They make coming to work fun, and I genuinely look forward to seeing them.
In my free time, I enjoy exploring the city’s great cafes and restaurants with friends and family or planning my next trip. I’ve also recently picked up pickleball and have been having a blast playing with my co-residents.
I am truly honored to receive this award; it has been a privilege to learn and grow alongside so many outstanding residents at the U of A. A special thank you to the PARA team for their amazing work and continuous dedication to resident needs and well-being. Thank you again for the nomination, I’m excited to see what the next few years bring!
A colleague shared this about Dr. Patel:
"During my work with Vaishvi, right from the start, she stood out as someone incredibly helpful and kind. Whenever anyone on the team was swamped, she was the first to jump in and lend a hand or a listening ear—always ready to lighten the load for her colleagues. She’s also amazing with patients and their families. She is extremely empathetic and takes time to address their concerns while making small but thoughtful changes to brighten their day. Vaishvi has this approachable, positive energy that makes her super easy to work with. The medical students really like working with her, and she even took time to chat with one of my mentees who was curious about radiation oncology—so
she’s already making a big impact as a mentor too. Beyond that, she’s always trying to promote collegiality and wellness, from organizing dinners outside of work to bringing treats for the residents to doing extra tasks to help others get to their half days on time. Outside of her clinical duties, I know she is a PARA committee member, works on research projects and enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She is honestly a joy to be around, and I am looking forward to working with her more in the future!
