PARA is governed by a Board of Directors and supported by an Advisory Council. Together, these groups ensure resident physicians from across Alberta are represented in the Association’s decision-making and strategic direction.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is PARA’s governing body, elected by resident physicians across Alberta. The Board oversees the affairs of the Association, sets strategic direction and ensures PARA operates in the best interests of its members.
The Board also appoints the CEO and carries the fiduciary responsibility to act with care, loyalty and good faith to support the long-term health of the Association.
Advisory Council
PARA’s Advisory Council is made up of regional and program-specific representatives who help ensure the voices of resident physicians are heard. The Council provides input to the Board on strategic priorities and represents the diverse experiences of PARA’s membership.
Representation is based on program size:
- Programs with fewer than 30 residents are eligible for one representative
- Programs with 30 or more residents may have up to two representatives
- Additional Member-at-Large positions are included to ensure well-rounded representation. The Council’s composition is reviewed periodically to reflect the evolving needs of the membership.

Our intention is to continually improve resident physicians’ professional and personal lives.
We value: Relationships with our members and with our partners. Understanding of our members’ needs and the system in which they work. Diversity in perspective and lived experience. Rigour in meeting the standard of service that our resident physicians deserve.
