Income Tax Preparation

Who should file a personal income tax return?
Everyone.  Even if you have no refund coming to you or taxes needing to be paid, it is important to file a return to be eligible for certain government programs.

When should you file your return?
If you are expecting a refund, the sooner you file the sooner you will receive the refund.  If you owe money, your tax return must be filed by the end of April to avoid filing penalties and payment must be made by the end of April to avoid interest penalties.  So even if you are unable to make the payment, you still should file the return as that will save you money.

What do you need to file your return?
Gather all your tax information slips (T3, T4, T4A, T5, T2202A) as well as any charitable donation receipts and RRSP contribution slips.  In addition, any child care expense receipts, medical expense receipts, and any other expenses listed in the "Tax Deductions" below.  Then make sure to review "CMA Tax Tip Guide" for specific tips to assist you.
