Annual Resident Well Being Award

Well-Being Award Nomination Form

DEADLINE: May 31st each year.  EMAIL NOMINATION FORMS TO:  para-ab@shawbiz.ca

The Professional Association of Residents of Alberta (PARA) is an organization which represents 1200 resident physicians in Alberta. In brief, a resident physician is a physician-in-training, who has completed medical school and is either in a specialty or family medicine residency program. Typically, these programs can last as short as two to five years, and can be much longer. Residents are highly competent, and this is in part due to many years of education. In addition, it is also a credit to the high caliber of training programs that abound. Nonetheless, the entire training is based on an apprenticeship model and requires multiple staff physician preceptors, who teach these residents in daily practice and also didactically as they assume increasing responsibility.

As resident well-being is an important issue, PARA also recognizes outstanding contributions made in this area by a staff physician in Calgary, Edmonton, and in a rural center.

The awards for the 2009-2010 academic year are as follows:
Dr. Jordan Cohen, PD Psychiatry, University of Calgary
Dr. Kathryn Dong, Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine, University of Alberta
Dr. Erica Dance, Assistant Clinical Professor, Emergency Medicine, University of Alberta

Honourable Mention:
Dr. Nathalie Jett, Associate Professor, Neurology, University of Calgary

PARA awarded a $500.00 Donation to the charity of choice for each of the PARA Well-being award recipients.
