Criminal Record Check Requirement

Resident physicians are advised not to submit a criminal record check (CRC) to AHS at this time. AHS is working with the Universities, the PGME offices, PARA, and others to establish a CRC policy.
In response to the Protection of Persons in Care Act, Alberta Health Services (AHS) will eventually be requiring criminal record checks from resident physicians and medical students. Before that requirement is put in place, a policy outlining the process and addressing privacy and security issues, timelines, consequences, exceptions, etc. will need to be in place.
