Board Member Roles and Expectations
Expectations upon Aggregate Representatives on the PARA Board of Directors
1. Attend all Board of Directors Meetings
- There are 4 Board meetings per year, alternating between Edmonton and Calgary, each beginning at 12 Noon and lasting approximately 3 hours.
- Travel expenses are fully reimbursed, and dinner is provided.
- Program directors have been informed of your contractual right to attend, and the educational value of attending as per the new RCPSC CANMEDS 2000 objectives and the CFPC Four Principles of Family Medicine.
2. Know your Aggregate
3. Regular Communication
- At least 30 days prior to each Board meeting, PARA expects you to have talked to the Chief Resident in each program within your aggregate to see if there are concerns in that program. A visit to the programs' half-days may be required, as decided by the Board or Executive.
- You will report the results of these interactions to the respective Area Representative on the Executive (Edmonton / Calgary) no later than 30 days prior to the next Board meeting.
4. Committee Participation
- PARA sends representatives to various meetings of numerous other organizations, in order to ensure that the views of residents are heard in all relevant forums. PARA also has several active internal committees.
- Each Board member will be encouraged to participate on at least one 'external' and 'internal' committee, to be determined at the first Board meeting.
- A brief report of the events on 'external' committees will be submitted to the PARA office within 14 days of that meeting.
- Committee descriptions
5. Be Involved
- All Board members are expected to attend PARA-organized social functions.
- All Board members are expected to assist with Resident Awareness Days.
Replacements will be sought for those who are unable to complete these responsibilities.
