Regular Duty Hours:
o
If a Resident is not
scheduled as on call on a weekend day, but is required to perform patient
rounds on an assigned hospital service during a weekend day, a stipend of
$100 shall be paid to the Resident for each scheduled weekend day.
·
Effective July 1,
2006: All Residents performing on-call duties shall be scheduled by 28 day
blocks.
·
In-house call
o
In-House call is on a
one-in-four (1:4) basis. Based on
28 day blocks, the number of days on service subtracting any time the Resident
is away on vacation are as follows:

1-6 days on service

duty on any portion of more than three weekends out of any five weekends during
that calendar month

Effective July 1, 2006:
Sign-over of patient care responsibilities and pertinent patient information
shall begin no later than the 24th consecutive hour of duty. Apart
from handover of patient care responsibilities, no Resident shall be required
to assume new clinical responsibilities following the 24th hour of
duty. Such handover shall not
exceed 2 hours.
o
Until June 30, 2006: No
Resident shall be on duty or carry clinical responsibilities for more than 28
consecutive hours as a result of in-house call. Patient information must be passed on beginning no later
than the 25th hour on duty.

Effective July 1, 2006:

The following clause will
be deleted:

The critical care units,
neurosurgery, general surgery, and post-transplant care shall not comply with
an on-call ratio of one-in-four for service provision reasons. These Residents may not be on-call more
than 10 times in any 28 day block.
Starting January 1, 2004: when scheduled by 28 day blocks, Residents
shall receive additional remuneration at a rate of $206 for each scheduled
in-house call in excess of 7 during that 28 day block.

Home Call
o
Home call is on a

patient care responsibilities.
Handover shall commence no later than the 24th hour of duty
and shall not exceed 2 hours.

Regular Duty Hours:
o
No Resident shall be
scheduled or required to perform more than 12 hours of clinical duties in any
one day, unless scheduled as on-call.
o
Residents on Emergency
Medicine rotations who are scheduled for shifts shall not exceed a total of 60
hours of shifts per week.
o
No Resident shall be
scheduled to work any hours on Saturday, Sunday, or Named Holidays with the
following exceptions:

Where the Resident is
scheduled as on-call
§
Where the Resident is
scheduled for an Emergency Medicine shift.
§
Where a Resident assigned
to a hospital service is required to perform patient round on that service on a
weekend day, and where that Resident is not scheduled as on-call that weekend
day.
§
In this circumstance,
a stipend of $65 will be paid to the Resident for each scheduled weekend day that the patient rounds are provided. Any individual Resident shall collect
no more than one stipend amount per day.

In-house call
o
No Resident shall be
scheduled for in-house call duty more than 7 times in any 28 day block, or more
than 8 times per calendar month.
o
No Resident shall be
schedules for in-house call duty, or a combination of in-house and home call
duty, on two consecutive days.
o

thereof more than (10) nights in (30).

In the event PARA feels
that the limits stated are not being adhered to by the Authority, PARA may
refer the issue to an Adjudication Board or an Arbitration Board.
