Maternity Leave
2007-2010
- A Resident who becomes pregnant shall receive up to (17) weeks maternity leave. Such leave may commence up to (8) weeks prior to the predicted date of birth
- The Resident shall receive up to (17) weeks of sufficient pay inclusive of the Employment Insurance two-week waiting period to match 90% of her salary when combined with Employment Insurance benefits
- A Resident will not be required to perform con call duties or scheduled shifts in Emergency Medicine beyond 2400 hours once she has completed 31 weeks of gestation

A Resident who become pregnant shall be granted a maximum of (18) weeks maternity leave. Such leave may commence up to (8) weeks prior to the predicted date of birth.

Effective September 1, 2003: The Resident shall receive up to (15) weeks of sufficient pay to match 90% of her salary when combined with Employment Insurance benefits.

A Resident will not be required to perform on call duties once she has completed 31 weeks of gestation, or earlier if a valid medical reason is provided. This will not itself incur any reduction in pay, nor lengthen training.

A Resident who become pregnant shall be granted a maximum of (18) weeks' leave without pay for maternity leave purposes. Such leave may commence (10) weeks prior to the predicted date of birth and in no case will a Resident be required to return to her duties sooner than (6) weeks following the birth of the child.

Maternity leave shall be without pay and benefits, except for the portion of maternity leave during which the Resident has a valid health related reason for being absent from work and is eligible for paid leave for illness or no-occupational injury.

Paternity/Paternal Leave

In the event of the birth or adoption of a child , where a resident has not been granted maternity leave, a Resident shall be granted a maximum of (2) weeks leave of absence with full pay and benefits.

All Resident my request additional leave without pay or benefits totaling up to (52) weeks.

Each male Resident is entitled to (1) day's Paternity leave with full pay and benefits upon each occasion of the birth of a child, and a further (4) days of unpaid leave within 52 weeks of the birth.

In the event of an adoption of a child, a Resident shall be granted a maximum of (2) weeks' leave of absence with full pay and benefits.

All Resident may request additional leave without pay or benefits totaling up to (52) weeks.

Upon written request to the Program Director, a Resident shall be entitled to parental leave of up to (10) consecutive weeks without pay within the first (52) weeks following the birth or adoption of his/her child

Resident shall receive up to (1) week of unpaid paternity leave at his discretion.
