Taxi Reimbursement

In the Spring of 2007, the Professional Association of Resident Physicians of Alberta met with members of the Council of Academic Health Centers of Alberta to negotiate a grant for post call transportation. To ensure the bulk of the funds are funneled to residents servicing call duty representing the greatest risk to resident physicians, the Negotiation Committee agreed that reimbursement would be for In-house call service only. This grant has continued into the current Collective Agreement with grant funding provided by the Educating and Employing Entities (PARA's current contract counterpart).

Policy: 

Reimbursement will be for transportation from the hospital site to the resident's home after in-house call, under circumstances where a resident self assesses that he or she is unsafe to drive. Resident physicians may also claim for reimbursement for return-to-site taxi fare if it is needed. Payments will be made on the quarter and shall not exceed $200/Quarter/Resident. Submissions that are received after the cut off date will be processed for the following quarter.

In April 2008, the PARA Board of Directors reserved additional funds in the event that the annual bursary does not cover the submissions. Resident payments will be pro-rated under circumstances where the total quarterly budget is exceeded.

Deadlines:

• Submissions received on or before June 30: reimbursements will be distributed July 15, 2010.
• Submissions received on or before September 30: reimbursements distributed October 15.
• Submissions received on or before December 31: reimbursements distributed January 15.
• Submissions received on or before March 31, 2011: reimbursements distributed April 15, 2011.
• Submissions received on or before June 30: reimbursements distributed July 15.
